At
the heart of all human striving is a desire for wholeness, stability,
personal integrity and inner peace.
As life becomes more demanding of one’s time and energy, it
is ever more crucial for couples to make time for the spiritual
dimension of their shared lives.

|
To
be authentically human requires silence; to be spiritually healthy
requires meditation; to acquire peace we must have time and space to
reflect. The Companions
of New Skete welcome guests who are responding to an inner urge to
temporarily withdraw from a hectic, noisy environment in order to
nourish their interior dimension.

Even
a brief stay in a monastic community will enable our guests to
rediscover the values that give meaning to their lives.
Early morning rising and meditation in the still silence of the
new day offers the opportunity to start the day spiritually awakened
and self possessed. In
this setting, time slows and all events become more significant and
beautiful.
|
|
|
|
Silence
heals and orients our lives, helping us to honestly examine our
relationships with each other and with God.
We become open to the true meaning of obedience and listening;
as we respond moment by moment to life, we may realize a new inner
freedom, and a desire for true purity of heart.
The many cares of each day can be seen in a fresh perspective,
as prayer is discovered as the offering of our entire lives.

The
New Skete communities are nestled in the foothills of the
Taconic
Range
on the outskirts of the Village of Cambridge, New York, near the
Vermont
border. The grounds of
all three monasteries are places of solitude, silence, and natural
beauty, encouraging visitors to quiet reflection and prayer.

The
Companions offer guest suites particularly suited to the needs of
married couples. Each
suite offers a private entrance, sitting room, bedroom and private
bath, as well as a personal refrigerator, microwave, toaster and
coffee pot. As guests you
are invited to share your meals with the Companions.
If you are here on a weekend, you are welcome to join all three
communities for supper at the monk’s refectory on Saturday night.

You
are encouraged to join the three communities in our worship at Matins,
Vespers, and Divine Liturgy. You
will also have many hours for meditation, reading, prayer, and
relaxation.

You
are welcome to visit our woodland sanctuary garden, which is a short
walk up the hill from the front entrance to our monastery and also to
enjoy the paths to other areas of the property.
The gardens are a mixture of native woodland plants and a
variety of shade plants and perennials.
Benches are placed throughout the gardens, near icons for a
quiet, prayerful rest if you desire.
