Today we honor the icon of Christ within you, while your outstretched arms call us to bear and carry this same Christ in our own lives, so that hatred may disappear from the face of the earth and the love that only God can give may take its place. The Crucifixion

Inside: Praise him who was crucified for us. When Mary saw him she exclaimed, Though you endure the cross, still you are my son and my God.
The sight of life's very source suspended on the cross made the thief cry out, If this man who hangs with us were not God, the sun would never hide its light nor would the earth so quake and tremble. In a single moment you deemed the wise thief worthy of paradise. Grant us enlightenment and salvation.
O you who suffer all these things, remember me, when you enter your kingdom.

St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi

Like Anthony the Great and Paul of Thebes, you reestablished harmony between humanity and the savage beast, recovering the long lost intimacy between creation and its creator. For, in your presence, the wolf of Gubio became a lamb, placing its paw in your hand as a sign of peace, while the birds delighted in your preaching, as you sought to awaken in these creatures devoid of reason a conscious praise for the Lord, a praise in the name of all creatures like themselves. O holy father Francis, beg Christ our God to grant us his peace.  First Sessional Hymn, Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Monks of New Skete, 1995

The Meeting of Francis and Clare

The Meeting of Francis and Clare

Saint Francis and St Clare, both of Assisi, were united in three great passions: for the poor and crucified Christ, for the poor, especially the lepers, and for each other. The love for Christ and the poor did not diminish at all the deep love that united them, showing that between people who dedicate themselves to God and serving others, there can be true love and relationships of great tenderness.
